The 2025 Drumborg Vineyard Riesling has been named Best Wine of Show at the 2025 Western Victoria Wine Challenge. It’s a fitting accolade for a vineyard long regarded as one of Australia’s finest expressions of cool-climate winemaking.

Planted in 1964, the Drumborg Vineyard sits on Victoria’s far south-west coast in the Henty wine region. This wild, windswept pocket is shaped by salt-laden breezes and long, slow ripening seasons. These conditions produce wines of unmistakable purity, structure and restraint.
It’s this isolation and precision that make Drumborg so distinctive. Every season demands patience and care, every harvest rewards restraint. Over six decades, the vineyard has built a quiet reputation for crafting Rieslings of incredible finesse. Widely known for their lifted citrus aromatics, crystalline acidity, and effortless ability to age.
Today, under the stewardship of Vineyard Manager Larry Sadler, that legacy continues. The vineyard remains a benchmark for cool-climate viticulture, managed with the same meticulous attention to soil, vine and timing that has defined it since its first planting.
The 2025 growing season at Drumborg was one of balance and clarity. Late winter rains restored moisture to the soils, followed by a mild, dry summer that encouraged slow ripening and perfect flavour development. The resulting fruit showed impeccable natural acidity and aromatic precision.
In the glass, the 2025 Riesling is true to style: aromas of lime zest, white blossom and bath salts rise from the glass, grounded by a mineral backbone that speaks of its windswept coastal home. The palate is precise and pure, driven by natural acidity and a long, elegant finish.
It’s a wine that captures the essence of its site, poised, powerful and endlessly elegant.
At the 2025 Western Victoria Wine Challenge, our 2025 vintage of the Drumborg Vineyard Riesling not only topped its class but was awarded the competition’s highest honour, Best Wine of Show. The accolade placed it ahead of standout entries from across the Grampians, Pyrenees, Ballarat and Henty regions.
Vineyard Manager Larry Sadler was also recognised with the Kym Ludvigsen Memorial Award for Best Single Vineyard Wine. The award celebrates excellence in vineyard practice across the region, while honouring the legacy of the late Kym Ludvigsen, a respected viticulturalist and a close friend of Sadler.
