The legacy of this famous Shiraz begins in 1964 when the ‘Great Western Hermitage’, as it was once known was first released. This name was changed to St Peter’s in 1998 to honour the first vineyard planted in Great Western, recognising the enduring legacy of winemaking in the region. This wine is distinctly a Great Western Shiraz, with its unique taste characterised by the town’s cool climate and rich soils, a taste irreplicable by regions elsewhere.

The St Peter’s Shiraz is celebrated for its huge cellaring potential and you will often hear of longtime collectors having a bottle or two tucked away. Let’s hope none of you are too eagle-eyed when you come to visit us, as we have our very own stash hidden in our Underground Cellar awaiting their prime.
We take a lot of pride in the quality of this wine, choosing to release only small quantities and only in exceptional years. As we are committed to ensuring all of the fruit in this Shiraz is from our vineyard in Great Western, there is no certainty that this wine will be produced each year. This means that in spite of our St Peter’s Shiraz being one of our most celebrated and beloved wines by critics and customers alike, we simply will not make it if the quality of the fruit is not up to standard. For this reason, know that if you manage to get your hands on a bottle, it meets our near-impossible standards of what a truly exceptional Shiraz should be.
Our St Peter’s Shiraz is remarkable in its full-bodied depth and richness of flavour, offering a masterful blend of dark fruit, chocolate and spice with a hint of oak. Its refined tannins and long finish contribute to a wine that is powerful yet balanced, showcasing sophistication and complexity.
For decades our St Peters Shiraz has been a reflection of the quality of our vineyards and the skill of our winemakers, serving as an exemplar of the winemaking prowess of the Grampians region. The 2021 vintage, in particular, has received widespread acclaim, earning 99 points from The Real Review and Halliday Gold, with critics highlighting its outstanding quality and craftsmanship. Ray Jordan of Wine Pilot even named it one of his favourite Australian Shiraz.
With each bottle of St Peters Shiraz, you’re not just enjoying a wine, but embracing a storied tradition of excellence and craftsmanship that defines the very essence of Great Western winemaking, making it a treasured gem among collectors and connoisseurs alike.
