Planted almost 50 years ago in 1975, the Mt Ida Vineyard stands as a pioneering establishment in Heathcote. Located on ancient volcanic soils beneath the extant volcano Mt Ida, it thrives as a dry-grown marvel. SeppeIt Mt Ida Shiraz, produced only in exceptional vintages and in limited quantities, is a testament to its rarity. The 2022 Mount Ida Shiraz epitomizes the intense colour and flavour synonymous with Heathcote Shiraz, boasting the regional character derived from the renowned red Cambrian soils of the area.
This 100% Shiraz from the Mt Ida Vineyard showcases meticulous winemaking, with fermentation in small open fermenters and 11 months of maturation in French oak hogsheads. Its deep garnet colour precedes an inviting nose of dark plum, chocolate, and earthy spice. On the palate, finely tuned tannins and distinct fruit sweetness blend with mineral and meaty notes, reflecting the terroir of Heathcote. Sourced exclusively from the Mt Ida Vineyard in Heathcote, this wine embodies the region’s unique conditions, resulting in a complete and balanced expression. With a pH of 3.56, acidity of 6.4 g/L, and alcohol content of 14.5%, it’s poised for enjoyment from 2024 to 2032.
