St Peters Shiraz 2012, St Peters Shiraz 2013, St Peters Shiraz 2014
The St Peters Vineyard has been considered the pinnacle of Grampians vineyards situated on a 30-acre block in front of the historic Seppelt Great Western property. St Peters Shiraz was first released as Great Western Hermitage in 1964 later being rebranded to St Peters in the late 1990s. Today St Peters is Seppelt Wines flagship Shiraz, testimony to the distinctive style and pedigree of Grampians Shiraz, only being produced in small quantities and only on exceptional years. From the sacred soils of Seppelt Great Western comes a wine that is truly divine; St Peters Shiraz 2012. Matured for 14 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques the 2012 vintage has an opaque dark red colour, aromatics of liquorice overlaid by some light clove with cedar and black pepper notes following. Fine grained yet solidly built tannins with a medium body, the 2012 vintage is a favourite among cool-climate Shiraz lovers. The St Peters 2013 has been appointed four rating over 97 and was once dubbed “one of the best St Peters wines ever seen” the 2013 St Peters Shiraz is truly an embodiment of viticultural history. The nose is a heady mix of plum, olive and spicy French oak with characters of liquorice and dark berry fruits in the palate.
The final Shiraz in this collection is the 2014 St Peters Shiraz consisting of a complex, perfumed nose of violets and dark fruit laced with sweet spice and freshly cracked pepper. Tight, fine tannins combined with mulberry fruit on the palate. The 2014 vintage has received 5 trophies, two gold medals and 97 points from James Halliday, highlighting the prestige and quality of one of Seppelt Wines most iconic Shirazes.
